The Mahjong
Table

A private chef and an instructor for the length of the game. Small plates arrive between hands so nobody has to leave the table.

$1,200 for eight · food, lesson and host included
The afternoon

Nobody leaves the table

The lesson opens it

One hour of American mahjong, taught table by table. The wall, the Charleston, reading the card. Beginners welcome.

Then you play

Cold plates go out between hands. Hot plates at the break. Everything eats one-handed and nothing marks the tiles.

Your host stays

Walking the tables, settling hands, keeping it moving. Right through to the last hand and the winner's dessert.

Before you ask

The questions we get

What if nobody knows how to play?
That's great! We can make it a learning tournament with our mahjong host.

The lesson opens the party and it's taught table by table — the wall, the Charleston, reading the card. Racks, tiles and the current year card come with us, and the cheat sheets are yours to keep.

Your host stays the whole session to walk the tables and settle hands.
Why eight people?
Tables seat four, so a party of eight is two tables and a proper game. Below that it isn't a tournament, it's a lesson.

Larger groups are planned in fours so the tables stay even — twelve, sixteen, twenty.
How long does it run?
Three hours. An hour of instruction, then play, with the hot plates landing about an hour in and dessert going out with the tea at the end.

Want longer? An extra hour is $150.
Can we do it at brunch instead?
Yes, and a lot of people prefer it. Same rate, softer light. Coffee and pastry on arrival, the lesson at the table, hot plates at the break.

Mimosas and spritzes on request, and the coffee runs all session.
What do you need from us?
Table space for two tables of four, a clean kitchen, and that's about it. We bring the tiles, the racks, the cards, the food and the host.

Two weeks' notice is preferred.
